DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM AND MEDIA STUDIES

This course recognises the growing importance of Journalism, Public Relations and Media Management in Uganda. The course seeks to give students the opportunity to develop skills essential for working in the world of Media and Communications. The course provides students with the opportunity to understand the role of media and communications in Uganda and other parts of the world. As well as examining contemporary media structures and developments, the course provides historical context for these developments.

The course is also expected to impart in students effective management of the media, marketing and corporate communications, which are crucial to achieving mutual understanding between organisations and their stakeholders. This course, underpinned by communications and customer behaviour theory, provides a strategic approach to managing communications that builds upon an understanding of the promotional mix.

The first two years of the diploma course consist of core modules. These provide the common foundation for the third year, where students can choose from a range of advanced specialist modules.
