Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you need to meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education or its equivalent with at least two subsidiary Passes in Biology and Chemistry.

  2. Technical/ Vocational Qualifications in Biological Sciences or Health-related discipline such as Nursing/Midwifery, Environmental Health Sciences, Laboratory Techniques; that are considered equivalent to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A-level).

  3. Students whose foreign secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to the Ugandan A-level (Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education) but permit admission into Higher Education in their respective countries. Such students shall be required to have an equivalent of Uganda Certificate of Education with at least a credit in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Foreign students whose studies were not conducted in English shall show proof in proficiency in English Language.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate a proficiency in the English language by passing an English proficiency Test conducted by the University.

What You Will Learn

When you  successfully completes the course you will have achieved the following Course Learning Outcomes:

  1. You will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of the underlying concepts, facts, theories and principles associated with the study and practice of biological science.

  2. You will be able to plan, design and carry out experiments and investigations and identify any associated problems.

  3. You will demonstrate knowledge and basic understanding of biological experiments including techniques of operations.

  4. You will demonstrate an ability to present, evaluate and interpret observations and experimental data, in order to develop lines of arguments and make sound judgments in accordance with basic theories and concepts of biological science.

  5. You will demonstrate an awareness of the limitations of biological theories and models.

  6. You will be able to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems related to the study and practice of biological sciences.

  7. You will be able to communicate the results of your study or practice accurately and reliably, and with structured and coherent   arguments.

  8. You will be able apply your subject-related transferable skills in contexts where individuals may have some limited personal  responsibility, but the criteria for decisions and the scope of the task are well defined.

  9. Use techniques, apparatus, measuring devices as well as laboratory materials safely and effectively.

  10. You will make and record observations, measurements and estimates in appropriate units and with a high degree of precision and accuracy.

  11. Undertake further training and develop new skills within a structured and managed environment.

  12. You will work with others to achieve defined objectives. In addition, they should be able to take up leadership roles in-group work.
