Admission Requirements
Eight entry points are available for persons wishing to enter the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) degree programme:
1. Holders of Advanced (“A “) Level Certificate:
In order to be eligible for direct entry into the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree programme, a candidate must have:
i. Sat and passed the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent and obtained credit passes in at least five (5) subjects taken at the same sitting including English, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics or Physics, and any other one subject.
ii. Sat and passed the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent and obtained principal passes in both Biology and Chemistry, and at least one (1) subsidiary pass in either Physics, Mathematics or Agriculture.
2. Holders of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE):
In order to be eligible for direct entry into the BPharm Degree programme, a candidate must:
1. Hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of C+.
2. Have obtained at least a C+ in each of the four cluster subjects shown below:
3. Holders of School Certificates Graded in Percentages and Average Points
In order to be eligible for direct entry into the BPharm Degree programme, a candidate whose final high school marks are graded in percentages and average point systems such as in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Burundi must have their grades first equated by Uganda National Council for Higher Education before seeking admission.
4 Holders of Diploma in Health-related field:
In order to be eligible for admission into the BPharm Degree programme, a candidate must:
1. Have a diploma or its equivalent in a health-related field such as Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Clinical Medicine, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography, Public Health, Orthopedics technology, Physiotherapy, Entomology, Dental Health, Nursing, midwifery or other health related qualification recognized under the Allied Health professionals Act, Nurses and Midwives Act.
2. Be registered with the relevant Health Professional Council of the home country.
5 Holders of Degrees in Science Disciplines:
In order to be eligible for admission into the BPharm degree programme, a candidate must:
1. Possess a degree in a science discipline, at least at the level of second-class lower division or its equivalent.
2. Have obtained the above qualification from an institution of higher learning recognized by Uganda national Council for Higher Education (UNCHE) and for foreign students, the degrees must first be equated by UNCHE.
6 Mature age entry scheme:
For admission into the BPHARM programme under the Mature Age Entry Scheme, a candidate must sit and pass with at least 50% the Mature Age Entry Examinations set and marked by a centre recognized by Uganda National Council for Higher Education to conduct mature age entry examinations. He/she must also satisfy all other university requirements for admission to the university under this scheme as guided by Uganda National Council for Higher Education.
7 Higher Education certificate/ Foundation program
A holder of Second-class upper division at Level 4 higher education certificate/ Foundation program recognized by Uganda National Council for Higher education and passed subjects of Biology and chemistry with credits legible for admission into BPharm Program.
8. Each intra University transferring student should submit a complete result containing all the prerequisite MODULEs required under the BPHARM Program for transfer to an applicable academic year before being considered for this purpose in the faculty. However, candidates transferring from other Universities are required to hold the minimum entry qualifications for admission into the University. Transcripts of academic records and confidential reports of all such candidates (forwarded by their institutions) are required to be sent to, and received in the Admissions Office of the University not later than 30th August of the year of admission or any other date as will be specified.
