Admission Requirements

Entrance Requirements

To be admitted into the BHND programme, you will need to meet certain admission criteria;

For direct entry, you must have obtained a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with a principal pass in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Food and Nutrition. Additionally, you must have attained at least two principal passes at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent with a principal pass in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Food and Nutrition.

If you are applying for diploma entry, you must have completed a Diploma in biological sciences or health discipline or its equivalent in a related field from a recognized institution by National Council for Higher Education. Alternatively, you can have an equivalent qualification from other institutions outside Uganda as may be determined by the Uganda National Council of Higher Education.

Additional Requirements and Considerations

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate a proficiency in the English language by passing an English proficiency test conducted by the university.

What you will Learn

Upon the completion of BSc. HND programme, the students should be well-conversant and have attained skills in the following:

  1. Nutritional Knowledge: The student will be able to analyse, synthesize and apply selected theories with a broad base of knowledge from basic sciences and clinical placements to support general practice.

  1. Change Management: The student will not only have an understanding of the need to participate in the change process of health care systems across different sectors of populations and diverse people groups but will also be able to conduct Nutrition seminars and intervention projects and assess Nutrition health care systems.

  1. Scientific Research: The student will have the ability to identify problems related to clinical research and to apply findings in order to inform the evolution of evidence-based practice. The student will be able to practically apply the theoretical clinical Nutrition and utilize the relevant research to improve the Nutritional status of individuals and communities.

  1. Teaching and Learning: The student will be able to identify and apply basic concepts of teaching and learning in general practice and in the promotion of health and prevention of illness amongst diverse populations.

  1. Leadership and Management: The student will apply the knowledge of leadership and management, including knowledge of internal and external organizational influences on practice in order to provide continuity of healthcare delivery.

  1. Clinical Practice: The student will be able to carry out the appropriate Nutrition Care Process in Nutrition assessment, Nutrition Diagnosis, Nutrition Intervention and Nutrition Monitoring and evaluation in the context of care delivery.

  1. Role Function: The student should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a registered Nutritionist's Scope of practice, in accordance with currently recognized practice standards in Uganda and East Africa.

  1. Professionalism: The student will be able to attain commitment to accountability to self, Life-Long Learning (LLL) practices, continuing competency, the welfare of health care consumers, and professional standards, and will able to demonstrate an appreciation for ethical, legal, and professional accountability for generalist practice.
