Uganda has few professionals and skilled health Informaticians. In as much as Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology have since developed the programme and have been training health Informaticians since 2015, the country still lacks enough professionals with knowledge and skills in both healthcare and computing (commonly known as health Informaticians). There are many healthcare challenges in Uganda such as shortage of healthcare professionals; poor storage, accessibility and management of patient information; loss of patient follow-ups; and drug inventory and accountability challenges. Health Informatics innovations have a proven role at improving healthcare delivery effectiveness and efficiency, as manifested by great advances in the developed world. However, few of these technologies have had an impact in Uganda, mainly due to lack of trained professionals to develop, implement and evaluate them. Masters of Science in Health Informatics (MSc. HIT) will train professionals that can develop implement and evaluate health informatics innovations aimed at improving healthcare in Uganda.
